Room 104 Happenings!:)

What's going on in ROOM 104????

-In Reading and Social Studies we are continuing our unit on various Cultural Contributions. We began this unit when we traveled around the world during our Christmas Around the World Unit before Christmas break. We researched traditions in America, Germany, Mexico, Australia, Russia, and England. This led to us learning where our own traditions first began and how they have evolved and changed. Our conclusion to that part of the unit was during our Class Christmas Party when they all got to share something they learned about each country and the traditions that are followed through with there. It was a sweet and fun time for our class to come together and celebrate all we had learned together and be able to share that with our families!
Here are some pictures of their writing on their favorite Christmas traditions when we began the unit:

Here are some of their writing pieces after we learned about the tradition of a pinata in Mexico. They got to write about what they would have their pinata filled with and what it would look like. Also, after learning about the elaborately decorated trees in Germany, they got to write about what they would decorate their Christmas tree with. :)

Now, after break....
We have been continuing our unit and learning about famous African Americans and their cultural contributions to our world. They have been so engaged in the lessons on Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, and Ruby Bridges! They are so amazed at the challenges these incredible people faced and how they overcame so many obstacles to make a difference! Here are a few samples of how we have been recording our information...

We are really focusing on Character Traits right now and trying to apply this in our own lives as well! Our main focus is LOVE...so stay tuned as we begin our next writing adventure!!

With all of the hard work and research that is going on right now in ROOM 104...don't we deserve some FUN, too???? Today we had our weekly Snazzy Snack! They really enjoyed their Rainbow Fruit Kabobs! What a fun way to make a healthy snack!! Also, Mrs. Morrow (Our Student Teacher) made them Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies! YUUUUM! They just might trade me in because those were soooo delicious!!!

Also, in our class right now we have a classmate whose mom is very sick. To brighten his day, the children and their families sent in gifts for him! Here is everyone with BIG, HAPPY smiles today!! Thoughts, prayers, and.....gifts, too??? What a beautiful way to show LOVE! <3

Okay, so how did we end our week??? We celebrated!! Not just for any reason, though....Mrs. Allen's All-Stars all reached 300 Steps in 100 Book Challenge!! That means that each child read for 4,500 minutes!!!! Which means that our entire class read for 94,500 minutes!!! Of course we had to celebrate and what better way than with GAME DAY! Here are some pictures from our fun!

Today we also read a book called "Martin's Big Words"...

We are out of school on Monday to celebrate the life of an amazing man! I leave you with one of his famous quotes as I challenge you the same as I challenged the children today....live your life in a way where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. lives through you....choosing to show LOVE to everyone.
