A year full of treasures...
Where did the time go?? That is a big question that I have been pondering lately. As the end of this school year seemed to be quickly approaching I kept searching and searching for the answer to that very question. It's amazing how 180 days goes by in what feels like 'the blink of an eye'. I wanted to post pictures from events that happened this school year as we take a walk down Memory Lane...
Memories from December 2013
In our math unit, we were learning how to represent multiplication using repeating addition, equal groups, and arrays. The pictures below show a few students representing a fact.
Two students from Boiling Springs High School came to visit us and read a book to us! Thanks for taking the time to come visit us!! :)
Before we left each other for Christmas break, we had a cookie exchange day! On this day they also brought a favorite Christmas book from home to read with a friend as they exchanged cookies! :) What a delicious memory! :):)
One assignment before break was for the students to write about a Favorite Winter Memory. We loved hearing about special traditions that represent each family in our classroom.
Here are a few...
Over Christmas Break, I went to Australia! This seemed like the perfect trip at the perfect time because we were just concluding our Christmas Around the World Unit where we researched how people all around the world celebrate. One of their last assignments was to research Australia and make a brochure so I would know what to expect when I traveled 'down under' for Christmas. :) Here are some pictures of them hard at work...
A New Year...New Memories....
Memories from January 2014
Leslie is showing us how talented he is building with legos! This is one of his favorite hobbies! :) Way to go Leslie!!
We also see how talented he is when putting a puzzle together, too! :)
Snazzy Snacks are a FAVORITE in our classroom on Fridays! On this particular day we had fruit kabobs and Mrs. Morrow (our student teacher) also brought in homemade chocolate chip cookies! What a yummy combination! :)
Our reward for reaching 200 Steps in 100 Book Challenge was to have a GAME DAY! They were able to bring electronic devices from home if they wanted to. As you can see, the technology age is in full swing...they are so serious and focused on what they are doing, but having fun at the same time! :)
Leslie and Leanna opted for the more traditional game day activity. :)
Hannah and her family provided a Snazzy Snack for us on several occasions. Here is a picture of Hannah with one of her snacks. :)
Memories from February 2014
After reaching a goal that was set for the school to bring in items for the Upstate Family Resource Center, we earned a SNOW DAY! Here are some pictures of the kiddos enjoying their Hot Chocolate and playing in the snow with Frosty! :)
Several students from our classroom participated in our school Science Fair. Here are the proud scientists with their projects! :)
Famous Americans visited our classroom to share the impact they made on the world and what they are remembered for!:) See if you can guess these famous Americans....
Memories from March 2014...
Our Weather Unit was very fun because it provided a lot of opportunites for experiments and hands on projects! Here are some pictures from the class in 'The Wonder Room' doing a rain cloud experiment! :)
Here are some pictures of Mrs. Morrow instructing the kiddos on how to make an anemometer. :)
Another weather tool that is used to measure the wind is a wind sock. Here are some pictures of them outside seeing their wind sock in action. :) Thank you March for a windy day! :)
Our next science unit was on matter. Here are some pictures of the kiddos in 'The Wonder Room' doing an experiment on liquids. :)
We read the story "ThunderCake" by Patricia Polacco and of course we had to see what Thunder Cake would actually taste like. We had several parents volunteer to make the cake for us! Thank you!! The secret ingredient to this cake is not a common ingredient when making a cake, so the kiddos made a prediction about what they thought it would taste like, tried the cake, and then wrote about what they thought after tasting it. They were very surprised at their taste buds reaction to a cake made with TOMATOES! :) To wash down our cake, we also had some Pink Lemonade. This went perfectly with our matter unit in Science since we were learning about mixtures and solutions. :)
Ava Bragg and her family sent in our Snazzy Snack near St. Patrick's Day! What a clever way to "taste a rainbow". :)
On St. Patrick's Day we had a special treat...Leprechaun Punch and a sweet treat from Mrs. Morrow.:)
Here are some pictures of us being mathematicans! To add and subtract this year we sometimes used a tool called a Tens Frame. Also, here is a picture of some kiddos modeling a balanced equation. :)
Memories from April 2014
Baylee Allison and her family created and brought in a Snazzy Snack several times this year. Here is a picture of Baylee holding a very adorable creation that was perfect for the upcoming Easter Holiday. :)
Part of our Severe Weather Unit consisted of a Poetry Alive Project where the students were to create an "I am Storm" poem and bring it to life! They also created a Severe Weather Poster informing others of the dangers of the severe weather they researched. They also presented these projects to Mrs. Black's kindergarten class as they were beginning their weather unit! :)
Here are some pictures from the OES annual 'Muffins with Mom'. :)
In Social Studies we learned about the Local Government and who is in charge of making decisions in our Local Community. Each student created a poster and a campaign speech to persuade us to vote for them to be our class mayor!:)
William Scott won the election as Class Mayor! :)
One of the last units that we did was on Fairy Tales in Reading. The students created a Cereal Box Book Report Project on a fairy tale. They also had to create a commercial to persuade us to buy their cereal! Their creatvity really shown bright through this project!:)
We have spent a year on WONDERING and EXPLORING our WONDERS!:) Wonderopolis.org has been a fantatsic resource for us as our curiousity has been pushed to the limits and beyond! Some students got parent permission to submit an "I Wonder" question on Wonderopolis in hopes that the Wonderopolis Team will research and answer their question. Here they are hard at work submitting their quesiton. :)
One special day at the end of each school year is reserved for Superlative Awards for each child in my class. The awards range from "Best Dancer" to "Most Helpful". Here are some pictures from our special day!:)

Thank you Mrs. Allen for sharing the pictures. Any chance we can see the videos of our cereal box and/or biography project presentations?
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great summer.
Love,
William
You're welcome William! I am glad you enjoyed the pictures. :) I am working on getting the videos uploaded...it takes a little bit longer. Especially since I did not have the iPad turned the right way. Everybody is sideways. :) I have a program on my computer that I will use to rotate the videos and I will send an email out when I have those posted as well. Thanks for writing! I hope your summer is going great so far! I miss you! :)
