Monday...pretty much was spent listening to rules and procedures and learning about their WoNdErFuL teacher. :) See if your child remembers my favorite color or how long I've been teaching. When we shared "Strawberries and Lemons" on Monday they still had so many "Strawberries" to share even though our day wasn't that eventful!:) Some of them shared that they loved getting to see their friends or their teacher. It made my heart smile!!
Tuesday...we spent a lot of time getting to know each child in our class. They completed a "I'm a Super Second Grader" sheet and then chose ONLY ONE thing that makes them UNIQUE. What they shared was precious!! This showed us that we are all special, and different as individuals and as we come together we are an AWESOME team. Brooke likes Dinosaur Books, Ian likes Math, Holden wants to be a Firefighter when he grows up, Leanna likes Science, Tutiana likes the movie Karate Kid, Sydnee wants to be a Vet when she grows up, Joseph wants to be a Race Car Driver when he grows up, Winsabell wants to be a Doctor when she grows up, Ava likes to go shopping (at Lilly Pulitzer;-), Caden wants to be a Chef when he grows up, Elijah likes to watch Phineas and Ferb, Adeline wants to be a Baker(and work mostly with chocolate;-), Karly likes writing, Baylee and Hannah have the same birthday, September 2, El likes Gymnastics, Shniya likes Cheetahs, William wants to be a Space Man when he grows up, Leslie likes Spider Man, Hattie wants to be a teacher when she grows up, and Joshua has a birthday on May 29. Our goal after this activity was to be able to recall what each of our classmates said and we actually did a great job remembering!!
Wednesday...one of my "Strawberries" from today was reading "Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge" and talking about what a memory is. We also shared some special memories and added these in our Writing Journal so we can write about them sometime. I love hearing about their memories and it reminds me that sometimes the smallest things really do mean the most. This activity led to their homework assignment of bringing in 3 items in their "Memory Bag". Here are some pictures from them presenting to their classmates.
Thursday...we read the story, "Miss Nelson is Missing". We talked about what it means to be "missing" and then the students created a WANTED poster describing theirselves and why they would need to be found if they went missing. :) These turned out really cute and are hanging up in the hallway for everyone to see. Here are their WANTED pictures...
Friday...we made it!! ;-) Today we finished up any writing projects that we were still working on. We also did an activity where they had a list of things to take on a camping trip and out of the whole list they could only choose 5 things that they were able to bring. Then, they got with a group and tried to condense their list. After that, each group presented the 5 things that they decided on. As a class we all agreed that we would need water, a tent, a compass, a flashlight, and a sleeping bag. Some items that we weren't able to bring were books, soap, ipod, cell phone, or magazines. Only 5 of the most important things!! This was a good activity to get them working together as a team and sharing ideas. We will be doing A LOT of communicating and collaborating this year! I'm excited about what's ahead! Here are a few pictures of them showing TEAM WORK...
I also took some pictures today of them having fun at recess! When you work hard, you get to play hard!! :):)
Okay, that's all for this week. I hope you enjoyed getting to read and see some of the things we were engaged in this week. :):)
To be continued.....
