There are some talented builders in Room 104!!
Reading with a classmate...analyzing a folktale:)
Another cold day left us inside for recess:)
Linear Measurement means fun with rulers! They got in groups of 3 to create a yardstick and went around the room measuring things that they thought would measure at least one yard:)
Every other Friday our class will be Buddy Reading with Mrs. Black's kindergarten class! This was our first Friday reading together!:)
Using our 10 centimeter ant strips to create a meter:)
We had a special visitor from Watershed come and teach us about Matter in the Wonder Room!
Here are some things they had to say about their Watershed experience...
Bella: "We learned that if you put hot water on an ice cube it will turn to a liquid and then after it turns to a liquid it turns to a gas.:
Shawn: "We learned about pollution. We did an experiment. We had a straw, Qtip, tin foil, cotton ball, and a feather. Then we had to get the oil out of the bowl with water in it."
Rileigh: "We learned that if you put oil in water in a lake or a river where ducks live they could die."
Rachel: "We learned that every animal that lives in the ocean or lake could die."
Calleigh: "We learned that it is very hard to get oil off of another liquid."
Katelyn: "If there was a volcano or a fire or a factory the steam can make a pollution."
Chloe: "We learned that pollution is something like steam coming out of a factory and gets stuff into our air. When we breathe it it's not good for us."
Lana: "When you put something in a bowl like oil it looks like glass in a bowl."
Matthew: "We learned about water molecules."
Nevaeh: We learned that when we breathe air it takes up the whole room."
Payton: "We done an experiment and we had a bowl with water and a newspaper under it and we had some things to get the oil out of the water which was really hard."
Calleigh: "I learned that when you put some oil over water it goes and does not sink and it says on the top. It does not move around then it gets all the way out and forms a bubble."
Rileigh: "I learned that if you put oil in an ocean and spread it all the way to California then it will be really really hard to get all of the oil out."
They love sharing their 100 Book Challenge books with a friend every day! They participate in a Book Chat where they share one book...the title, genre (prove it with text or picture evidence), their favorite part and why, and the fourth item to share changes each week depending on what we are working on in class. Last week they had to analyze a character and share a character trait as well as show text evidence.
