I am soooo excited about our first Blog Post by Baylee!!! I am soo proud of her!! She did a fantastic job taking pictures with the iPad this week of the fun things that happened in Room 104! Her post at the top really sums it all up! In Math we started doing Math Stations! They have really enjoyed working in small groups this week! A strawberry for me was when one student shared that they liked "coming to the blue table to work with Mrs. Allen". It made my heart smile! I love those moments, too! We also had special visitors this week from the Spartanburg Humane Society! They shared what all they do to help animals at the shelter and each child got to be apart of what the process is when they get a new animal at the shelter. We really got to see the hard work that goes into taking care of these homeless animals. Our class had excellent questions and awesome statements of their "Ahh Ha" learning moments during the visit. I am sure their favorite part was Dae visiting us and hearing her story. She is such a sweet and gentle dog who loved the attention from all of the children. Another point that Bailey highlighted in her post was learning about jellyfish this week! We started out with a Wonderopolis post "Are jellyish really made of jelly?" The students answered that question in their "I Wonder" journals and then we watched a video clip and read about it on Wonderoplois! The answer and facts were so intriguing! We couldn't stop there! We went on to read a story in our reading book called "Jellies". The students then took time to reflect on whether their opinion on jellyfish changed or stayed the same after reading and seeing beautiful pictures of these majestic creatures. (Nobody really wanted to snuggle up to one, but some are really interested in them now and not as afraid.) :) Our next step was to read and watch a video clip on Diana Nyad and her trip from Cuba to Florida. We learned how the jellyfish prevented her from making the trip all the way several times. She finally reached her goal on the 5th attempt by wearing a special jellyfish mask! We loved learning about her determination and perserverance! And now it's Friday. Rest time. Relax time. Family time. Play time. Have a wonderful weekend!!
P.S. Be sure to check back next week as another student takes on the role as "Techi" and blogs for our class!

The word BUSY just keeps coming to mind when I think of this week. BUSY. BUSY. BUSY. With the "busy" thought also LEARNING comes to mind. We have been very BUSY LEARNING! :):) Animals, Classifying, Habitats, I wonder questions from Wonderopolis (Great site!! If you have never checked it out, you should!!! www.wonderopolis.org), Place Value, Representing a Number 4 different ways (W.E.B.S), 10 more, 10 less, Even or Odd Numbers, Informational Text Features (diagrams, captions, headings), Short Vowel Sounds (E. O, U), Body Spelling, Taps, Using Sign Language to practice our Spelling Words, Using our 100 B.C. Skill Card to guide us as we ask and answer questions before, during, and after our reading, making sure our writing answers the questions Who?, What?, When?, Where?, and Why?....BUSY....LEARNING....:)
Here are some pictures from our week... (Let's start off with some free FUN Time though with recess...it was our first "Grass Day". Our Class gets to play with the equipment on the cart every Thursday.)

This week we also got to pick a spot in the room to read if we wanted to instead of reading at our desk during 100 Book Challenge time. Helpers and Group Leaders get to read on the carpet, with pillows, or stuffed animals. It's a reward for them helping their classmates and working hard at their 2 week assigned jobs. Here are a few pictures of reading around the room...

Friday's are our FAVORITE....Snazzy Snack MAY have something to do with that?!? ;-) Thank you William and the Scott Family for making and sending in our Super Snazzy Snacks today! They were delicious paintbrushes!! :):)

I will leave you this week with a quote that is so very true. I encourage you to strive to have this kind of attitude and outlook on life as well as encourage your child to do the same. :) Sometimes it is exhausting to give WHOLEHEARTEDLY, but it is SO WORTH IT. :) Have a wonderful weekend enjoying the last days of Sweet Summer time!! I will be once again in a football stadium this weekend cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs...win or lose. :) (Hoping for a win though because that means a HAPPY HUBBY!)
